Is there anyone have ever heard about Step3 (S3)...?
This PLC generation is before Step5 and has many limited function, from its system or its I/O or even communications.
I need infos about this PLC-S3.
Please help for documents, manuals or software or some link......
The Step 3 family of PLC's were very powerful, and the first PLC I learned. the machine code was identical to Step 5 in areas, i.e. "And Input " Step 3 AI0 = C000 Step 5 AI0.0 = C000
Unfortunately if you require to access one for fault finding, then you require a dedicated programming unit called a PG2.
The PG2 was built into a suitcase by Siemens and was a bespoke device. the PG2 also required a dedicated interface module which was a "sandwich" of two Eurocard 19 inch rack cards.
Do you still have a functioning S3 PLC?
The early 1970s marked the beginning of the fundamental transition from hard-wired programmed controllers to programmable logic controls. The first PLC, the Simatic S3, was as big as a wardrobe cabinet - but the development of microelectronic systems quickly made memory storage and logic devices much smaller.
Siemens introduced its first Simatic controller at the Paris machine tools fair in 1958. It was a hard-wired electronic system for controlling and regulating small sub-tasks on production lines. The picture shows the Simatic S3, the programmable unit and the unit for punched tape:
