[?]: start learning the 800xA

Post by winnipeg_1 » Fri Dec 27, 2013 1:41 pm

Hello,

With being very new to the ABB stuff, I would like to start learning the 800xA. I've downloaded several of the training documents online - thanks, but would like to know if the simulator is part of the ABB 800xA software package or is this a seperate part.

Also what is the difference between softcontroller managment and a simulator.

Bascially I would like to build projects and test for my learning.

Thanks for any insight on this.

800xA includes a wide range of software packages intended for a different needs.
Minimum installation base: CLS License Service + 800xA Base.
But depend on controller vendor, industry, other specific needs it can vary in a wide range.
Specify at least the PLC vendor/model and industry you work for - I'll try to select an optimal installation package for your training needs.

Hello Linkinx64,

We have the 800xA version 5.0 SP2. The controllers are the AC 800M and S800 I/O.

We deal more with PID's then turning things on\off.

Thanks

Then start automated installation for predefined node type "SoftController Single Node Eng System".
After complete install get study T300 and T301 training courses (find links on forum).
These courses are assume the classroom is equipped with AC 800M hardware, however you can use SoftController software instead.
To download project to the SoftController you must configure Control Builder M project and settings as below:
1. Tools -> Setup -> Station -> Application Download: HWSimulationAllowed=true
2. Create a new project based on "AC 800M" template.
3. Right-click Controller->Properties and select "Simulate Hardware" checkbox.

PidLoop block you can find in the ControlBasicLib. If you prefer to write code based on control modules - see PidCC in the ControlStandardLib.

Good luck

You need MS Office 2007, MS .NET Framework 3.5, IIS, VB6 Pro, Adobe Reader and some more prerequisites to be installed before you start 800xA setup.
Check "3rd_Party_SW" folder on 800xA DVD. If you choose an automated installation all necessary prerequisites will be requested. Some of them you can install from automated installation window.

------- Minimum required--------
1. ABB Central Licensing System (Client + Server)
2. 800xA Base (+ all updates)
3. SFC Viewer
4. OPC Server for AC 800M
5. AC800M Connect
6. Control Builder M Professional
7. Base Software for SoftControl
-------------------------------------
------ also recommended --------
8. Engineering Studio // let you work in BDM and Function Designer
9. Process Graphics 2 // software to build operator displays
10. 800xA Instructions // documentation pack
-------------------------------------

I should be able to download all the nessecary software from this link - viewtopic.php?f=43&t=15855 including the bypass licence? Correct.

For what I want, can the minimum be ran on a signal XP 32bit machine.

No. That links is to 800xA SV5.1- it can't run in Windows XP environment.
And the software such as MS Office never included in 800xA installation packages.
But MS Office is not mandatory unless you are planning to work in BDM or DataDirect.

3 options available in the "Automated Installation" menue: 1. Install system installer 2. System Setup Tools 3. Run Automated Installation.
Do 1 then 3, but before prepare "Windows XP" installtion disc - it will be requested at Windows configuration stage.

Hello,
Ran into couple of problems which I'm sure that you'll be able to help me out with.

Please let me know if what I have done so far is correct? My goal is a signal node that has eng and oper work station, with the softcontroller for learning.

1) started with System Planner
2) The next page is the Licence which I don't have?? is this the part I need to install the bypass licence to select it? For this I just pressed Next.
3) I selected the third option "Plan a Single Engineering Node". Or is this wrong - also needed to select the Aspect Server
4) AC 800M Connectivity - only, nothing else.
5) Selected Device Management Profibus and Hart - PlUS - Device Management Foundation Fieldbus.
6) Nothing for Batch, Information or Asset options.
7) Standard Engineering Tools
8) Nothing for Domain - Only checked "use a workgroup"
9) Multisystem Integration - greyed out.
10) Then is says in a box -> The following system PCs will be set up:
1 SingleEngNode
11) Then it creates a graphical view with only one Single Eng Node.

This is the System Planner output

I can't see a thousand miles away what kind of errors are there. Attach a screenshots or describe it details.
And I don't understand why you not listen...

You now planned a node without SoftController but with lots of crap that will never use.

Hello,

Thanks for the help on this - I'm really confused on what I want and what is doable! Basically I'm looking to install a single node on a XP that will allow me to do programming, build template etc. This would include the engineering and operator space. This would be my machine to following course T315 with etc.

With that this is what I have done so far;
1) Install - System Installer (which is what I think you're taking about for being 1)
2) Run the System Planner. This is the only way I know of create the NetSet.Xml file that is requried for Config Windows.
3) Run Config Windows
4) Run Config Services.
5) Nothing for Config Windows Firewall.
6) Then start - Run Automated Installation (which is what I think you're talking about for being 3)
7) It asks me to - Select 800xA Installation Media Path
8) I select C:\Program Files \ ABB Industrial IT
9) At this point it creates a error box with the following -> ABB Software Distribution Structure was not matched from the media. Please make sure that parent directory to distribution structure is selected.
10) Under this main heading, it says the following -> Missing sub-folders under: C:\Program Files\ABB Industrial IT.
11) the example of the folder is -> 3rd_Party_SW_Adobe

I can't figure out how to paste this image into this topic

Thanks agains

Installer asked for the 800xA source media. You need specify path to the 800xA DVD or where you store installation files.

Thanks - fixed that one.

But now it asks me to select AC 800M Aspect Server. The other choices are 800xA Core system or Select Setup Package manually.

What option do I select?

Hello,

Making progress - but stops at installing Microsoft Hotpatches. It wants to install kb913522 and when I go to install it, the installation tells me -> Service Pack Version is newer then the update you are applying. No need to install this update.

But I can't move forward without updateing this?

Thanks

KB913522 is a patch from SP2. My XP is at SP3 that incorporates this patch.

As stated above it knows that I have a newer version but the installation does not let me move forward.

Cancel installation (quit system installer) and find <node_name>.cct file in the C:\ABB Setup Package\800EngNodeSC (where <node_name> - given computer name).
Open this file in the Windows Notepad, find the string "HOTFIX_2 = KB913522" and remove it.
Save the file, then in "Start Menu->ABB Industrial IT 800xA->System->System Installer" select "Resume Install & Setup..." and proceed with 800xA setup workflow.

While you cancel system installation check the Internet Explorer version. 800xA 5.0 SP2 supports IE v6 and v7. If you have newer version - roll it back to 7th.
The Internet Explorer versoion does not affect on installation but it can cause some bugs in the 800xA Plant Explorer in future.

Hello,

Not sure what's happening, but now Xp is doing weird things. I tried to use the search function and it tells me that files are missing. Then I tried to open couple things in windows and it tells me that I don't have the rights? Also IE doesn't work - but I re-read your post and see to make sure IE is at 7. My is at 8.

Anyways I'm going to get XP working again, and give it another shot.

Thanks

These requirements has been showned on one of the setup pages.
For the single node systems without history logs/asset monitoring/etc a hardware RAM ≥ 1.5Gb and CPU ≥ 2GHz is enough.
If you are running it on virtual machine: RAM ≥ 2Gb (host machine).
Free disk space: ~ 18Gb.

I could upload a virtual machine with 800xA 5.1 system preinstalled, but I think as an ABB employee you must learn how to install and configure 800xA system, not just perform PID loops engineering. Try and practice!

I think it is very clear: add current user to the "IndustrialITAdmin" user group. You can do this using Administrative Tools\Computer Management snap-in (see Windows Control Panel)

What you mentioned are alarms.
You need to launch "SoftController" from Start menue and start it. Then from the OPC Server control panel (also in the Start menue) connect to the 127.0.0.1:2 (must see an yellow smile opposite the address, e.g. :) 127.0.0.1:2).
Then you can create a project in the Control Builder. But before creating a project load the follow system extensions into your system: "ABB SFC Viewer", "ABB AC 800M Connect".
Once you create a project a control network will be created automatically (see "control structure" in the plant explorer).
Under the "control network" object find "OPC Data Source Definition" aspect. Configure it to work with the current node.
I think I already wrote how to configure CB project for the SoftController (check in my prev. posts).
When you're done - click "download and go online" in Control Builder.

Hello,

Couple of things which I can't locate

1) CB project for the SoftController (check in my prev. posts).
I looked and can't find this post.
2) must see an yellow smile opposite the address, e.g. 127.0.0.1:2.
The OPC says it's "running" - but I don't see a yellow smile and their is nothing in the Connected Controller box.
3) Load the following system extensions into your system: "ABB SFC Viewer", "ABB AC 800M Connect".
I can't figure out how to load these extensions - can you advise me and how to locate these.

Thanks

After trying couple of things - I was able to get the OPC working with the yellow smile.
And I also found the post on setting up the CB for the SoftController.

But I haven't figured out how to load the extensions and also when I try to download the controller with CB, it's asking for a user ID which I don't no what area to set this up.

THanks for your time

System extensions can be loaded from a Coniguration Wizard. Go "System Administration -> Your_System_Name->System Extension Load" - there you'll see...

In the Control Builder main menue go "Tools->Setup->Station->Application Download". Make sure ReauthenticateDl=false.

Check the system identity. The controller IP address in the Control Builder project must matching to the SoftController address (127.0.0.1:2).

Is thier someplace or something I can do to verify that it's all setup?

Thanks

So, did you got success with download to the softcontroller?
If you did - start now with the T300 and T301 training courses. The chapters related to the creation of the system you can skip - the system is now created and running.

Does anyone have a VMware virtual machine with 800xA installed?

Could you provide the download link?
