[reLink]: Calculation of saving energy with SoftStarter

Post by Nedjeljko » Tue Mar 22, 2011 10:08 pm

Hi to all,

I need to make calculations of energy consumption in two option:

1st: Motor start 6 time in 1h - starting motor without any starter or freq converter
2nd: Motor start 6 time in 1h - starting with motor starter

I need to make this calculation for my customer to install soft starters to his motors. I know all for manual calculations, but is there some software?

Thanks in advance

Sure
MathCAD v14.0: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=ANHO77BB

Read install.txt in crack dir.

in using soft starter
you actually be very carefull in the starting current limiter value coz once a motor starts it needs a high starting torque if the value is too low around 200% ( motor without softstarter is around 600 to 800 % LRA)the starting time can be to long.Generally softstarter is used to reduces stress and mechanical shock to motor or mechanical it drives.Using conventional motor starter the LRA is high so the starting time is to small ( split seconds)but gives enourmous stress to the motor it drives.
Basically with my analysis its not actually the saving in energy which is the sofstarter is used but to minimise the shock or stress it gives to the motor...

in using inverter
This i think is more convincing in saving energy .hence most inverter is equip with automatic torque boost even starting from o to 6o HZ ( inverter duty motor) the starting current is from minimum to the rated nameplate of the motor. Also it reduces stress to motor if properly parameterized.Example application is in the refrigeration and airconditioning system in which savings is high .Return of investment is merely in small time.

In using electronics component you must also consider the effects in your power system since it generates lot of noise and harmonics..You need to improved filtering sytem in your system ...

If anyone has better analysis im free to hear it...

Thanks
