Dear Sparkies,

What are the steps in RS Linx that I should follow to establish a communication between my IT & the 505?

Best regards
Hagos

I'm guessing that the ethernet port of the SLC has already been configured?
If the port has a static IP assigned open RSLinx.

For a newer or older Ethernet PLC

Go to "Communications",
Scroll down to "Configure Drivers" and open,
In the "Available Driver Types" select "Ethernet devices" and click "Add New"
If you want change the driver name to your liking,
When you click ok the "Station Mapping" window will open,
add the IP addresses of the devices that you would like to connect to with this driver. Range format "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" When you're finished click "Ok"
The driver should be running now. If you want to control how the driver starts highlight the driver and select "Startup" to the right. This will allow you to configure how the driver will start.

If the PLC is connected and running you should be able to see it when "RSWho" is opened under "Communications"

If the PLC is a newer model you should be able to use the "EtherNet/IP Driver"
The configuration is only the Ethernet card and subnet
The PLC should automatically show up under the driver in "RSWho"

One more thing that can cause problems is after a driver is configured the IP scan range can be set. If this has happened and the PLC IP isn't in the range it won't be seen sometimes. To check for this open "RSWho" right click on the driver and select "Properties". If a range has been configured it can be seen here.
