The electronic manuals are available on your computer after STEP 7 Professional has been installed. If you do not want to install the manuals on your hard disk, you can also view them directly from the CD.


2 Hardware Requirements

In order to work with the STEP 7 Professional, you require:

· For Windows 95/98: a programming device or PC with an Pentium processor and at least 64 Mbytes of RAM. Recommended are 128 Mbytes of RAM.
· For MS Windows Me: a programming device or PC with an Pentium processor with 150 MHz or better and at least 64 MB RAM
· For Windows NT: a Pentium processor and at least 128 Mbytes of RAM. Should you want to install or operate an operator station (WinCC), we recommend 256 Mbytes of RAM.
· For MS Windows 2000: a Pentium processor with 233 MHz or better and at least 128 MB RAM
· An external programmer for SIMATIC memory cards if you are using a PC and want to save your user programs in EPROMs and a SIMATIC NET interface if you want to use online functions to the automation system with your personal computer.
· A programming device or PC with the latest performance capabilities if you are editing hardware configurations containing several hundred modules, for example, (CPUs, slaves, I/Os) in your STEP 7 Professional project.


3 Software Requirements

3.1 Operating Environment

STEP 7 Professional is a 32-bit application which requires Microsoft Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows NT, MS Windows 2000 or MS Windows Me as its operating system. It cannot run under Microsoft Windows 3.1 or Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11.

The Microsoft Service Pack 1 for Windows 95 (Windows 95, version 4.00.950a) or at least Service Pack 3 for Windows NT 4.0 (NT version 4.00.1381) should also be installed, as applicable. For MS Windows 2000, Service Pack 1 should be installed. You can find information about these software packages on the Internet under Microsoft.

For installing and using STEP 7 Professional you require the Microsoft Internet Explorer as of version 5.0.

STEP 7 Professional achieves a slightly lower performance when operating on a Windows NT file system (NTFS) as opposed to a FAT file system (standard Windows 95/98 file system).
