OPENING A STEP 5 FILE

Post by zackguez » Fri Mar 22, 2019 5:47 pm

Hello all,
I am in need of opening a step 5 file to view ladder logic.
I do not have the step 5 software only TIA
I think it can be migrated into step 7 and then I can open it with TIA
Can I send the file to someone who has step 5 or 7 and can help ?
I am glad to throw something in the hat as well :)
Thanks
Zack

it will be not so easy like you think
need understand what is modules s5 have,
need analyze program for using not support by s7 commands & change to another: like TIR/LIR
AI/AO,HSC,CP programs should be converted by manual

Hello,

you don't need Step5 software. Install S7-Software on your computer. Step7 has an converter from S5 to S7.
You find links for S7-Software in this forum. In the S7-Software there is a S5-converter.

Here is a link to a docment (in German)

You might need a S5 program if the program contains special functions (blocks) or logic, since the S5 to S7 translator will not be able to handle them and then stop the translation, so in most cases you have to "prepare" the S5 program for translation to successfully use the translator.

Hi
Thanks for the replies.
I was able to do the conversion but without enough knowledge I had a hard time debugging.
It is not a straight forward job and does need some expertise
