Communication between PC and s7200 using MPI PC adapter USB

Post by Andreas557 » Fri Mar 04, 2011 4:17 am

Good Day,

I am having trouble communicating my s7200 to my PC using MPI/USB adapter. But when i try to communicate using USB/PPI there is no problem. I don't know what is wrong, i have checked my PG/PC interface, I changed my baud rate to the available one's,there are three of them, (19.2kbps, 187.5kbps and 1.5Mbps) all of them did not work. My local connection is connected to USB.

I don't know what is wrong, could someone help me, thanks in advance, i will really appreciate your help, this will help me in my studies and for our defense. As you can see I'm still a student. :D

You can see that on MPI minimum speed is 19.2k, but S7-200 is factory delievered with 9.6k. Use PPI cable for primary setup.

It works, but with newer CPUs only (I think firmware 2.XX)
But MPI minimum speed is 19,2, and S7-200 port is factory (default) configured to 9,6.
So you first need a PPI cable to change system parameter PORT SPEED to 19,2, and then, if firmware is 2.XX, you can use MPI cable.
If you work with Siemens equipment, I strongly reccomend you to have a PPI/RS232 cable, it is usefull also for transfering application and OS to a HMI devices.

But seems to me your adapter can also work as a PPI adapter.

Yes, it works as a PPI with s200, just change the interface settings. I use it as a MPI and PPi cable. But it wil not work as a PPI with firmware updates for panels.

You can not update panel OS and make transfer with USB cbale, but with SERIAL cables ONLY (serial 232-232 or 232/485 cable)

If the panel is already working at a profibus network the cable works perfectly. But if the panel is empty, you will need the serial cable.
