Strange you were able to install XP on Win7 laptop. I tried it with my ASUS M50Vn, and ti failed. I believe Win XP can not run on your laptop.

Simply use ProSave.

Which simulator are you using? Generaly, there are no problem with ports in simulators.

No, Maher. You can not use USB adapter becouse it needs 24VDC from PLC/HMI side and only CPU-DP ports and advanced HMI ports provide this 24VDC.
Use 232/PPI adapter (you can use Profilic USB/232 converter if your laptop has no serial ports). It work, tested.

Coyote is rigth, tr to perform an OVERALL reset (hold mode switch in MRES postition until LED flashes) - see manuals.

You can read PLC's variables via Excel if you are using S7-200 and PC Access software.
Or, use Omron CJ1 PLC, capable to store values in CSV format on local MMC, then you transfer files to PC .

You can not update panel OS and make transfer with USB cbale, but with SERIAL cables ONLY (serial 232-232 or 232/485 cable)

It works, but with newer CPUs only (I think firmware 2.XX) But MPI minimum speed is 19,2, and S7-200 port is factory (default) configured to 9,6. Mike, if program was created in WinCC Flex 2007 and you are usng WinCC Flex 2008 to download it, I believe that you need to update Operating system first, since new panel image was delivered with WinCC Flex 2008.

S7-1200 RS232 port is male.
S7-200 RS485 port is female.

So, is it possible to interconnect those two ports via PPI/RS232 cable, and establish Modbus communication between S7-1200 and S7-200?

You can see that on MPI minimum speed is 19.2k, but S7-200 is factory delievered with 9.6k. Use PPI cable for primary setup.
