If it's a solid red CPU light it's most likely a hardware fault. I've never had any luck bringing one back up. I've heard of some being recovered by hardware flash (bios upgrade) with OS302 but you can't get them any more.
Might want to start shopping on eBay.

A higher version of 5000 will not run on a lower version emulator - firmware differences between revs.
You'll need to install v19 5000 also and convert the project to 19 to emulate. Multiple versions can be installed at the same time.

I've seen similar problems in the past with linx if you don't backup the network before reinstalling. In linx classic even if you set up the drivers with the same names you will get unpredictable results going online until you re-setup the plc comm paths and save to the project.

The vol id is used by the old evicom- evrsi activation. The new FactoryTalk activation uses the hard-coded manufacture's serial number. This serial is located in the hard drive firmware and can't be changed.

Are you using a "stripped down" installation? It might be trying to install factorytalk services,.net or one of the other support files needed and can't find it.
Also if you're installing on vista or win 7 make sure you're installing it as administrator.
